Breast Complaints

There are a number of common breast complaints which should be addressed, including breast pain, nipple discharge, skin changes, or breast lumps/masses.

Majority of breast discomfort is not serious. However, breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women and the 2nd leading cause of cancer related deaths in U.S. women, so breast complaints should be taken seriously.

If you are experiencing breast pain, discharge, notice skin changes, or feel a lump, it’s time to schedule an appointment.

What to Expect?

The gynecologist will take a full patient history (reproductive, family, and medical) and evaluate the symptoms to determine the cause of discomfort.

There are a number of factors to consider in evaluating breast complaints, including:

  • a risk assessment for breast cancer
  • the influence of hormonal changes (from pregnancy, contraceptive use, or exogenous hormones)
  • menstrual cycles
  • location, quality, duration, pain severity
  • general medications (prescription or over the counter)

If you are dealing with any breast complaints, please contact GPHW to make an appointment.
