Abnormal Pap Smear Management

After an abnormal pap smear, what next?

If your Pap smear results show abnormal cervical cells or positive HP then a colposcopy is the next likely step in diagnosing the cause.

What exactly is a colposcopy? A colposcopy is a procedure to examine the cervix, vagina, and vulva under magnification, and possibly perform biopsies of any area of concern.

What does it feel like? The colposcopy procedure may feel similar to a pelvic exam or Pap smear test. This procedure usually lasts 10-20 minutes in your gynecologists office.

If you’ve received abnormal Pap smear results, call GPHW today to set up an appointment for further testing.
